We believe strongly in desexing dogs and cats if you don’t intend to breed with them. It is for this reason we significantly discount desexing procedures to encourage owners to have this procedure done for their pets. The desexing is a day procedure where the pet will be brought in during the morning and left with us for the day. The pet will go home later that afternoon. There may be sutures in the wound to be removed 10 days later, however we regularly use intradermal sutures that don’t require removal. The cost of the procedure includes pain relief during surgery and for several days afterwards, the desexing surgery, and 2 post operative checks after surgery in case there are any concerns. Generally dogs and cats tolerate the surgery well and are up and about the next day. Most times you actually need to keep them confined to prevent swelling after the surgery. We also desex rabbits, guinea pigs and ferrets at the Hastings and Somerville clinics.
