DENTAL

Dental disease can cause significant pain in your pet and lead to other serious illnesses such as kidney disease.  It can sometimes be difficult to know if your pet has sore teeth but the change in your pet after these sore teeth are addressed can be immense.  Pets may show this pain by chewing on one side or a change in behaviour such as not playing as vigorously.

Somerville and Hastings both have sophisticated dental equipment to give your pets the best in dental care.  Tartar and plaque are removed with an ultrasonic scaler before the teeth are polished.  Diseased teeth can be removed if necessary under the general anaesthetic.  Pain is managed with local anaesthetic blocks and pre-operative and post operative pain relief.  We understand how sensitive the mouth is to pain and try our very best to minimise this.  After several days on soft food most pets are keen to return to their normal food with gusto.
